The Pisces New Moon
February 21, 2012

by Marlene Pfeifle, CAP

New Moon forecasts show general trends and financial outlook for the month; here is the overview of the month ahead

The New Moon forecast does do not get updated until the day of the New Moon. The next New Moon will be: New Moon in Aries, March 22, 2012.   Subscribe to our newsletter if you would like to receive the next forecast before the next New Moon.

In Lesson Eight, titled Mundane Astrology, in The Textbook for Financial Astrology, Book 4, Kaye Shinker outlined how to read a New Moon chart.  Kaye always read the New Moon chart from the point of view of Washington D.C. and gave predictions in the newsletters foretelling events which included economic, political, sociological, entrepreneurial, and meteorological conditions.

My New Moon reports will be different. I prefer to use New York, NY for the location of the New Moon chart instead, and will focus on the economic issues and political conditions affecting the financial market.  In my reading I'll interpret the house placement of the New Moon for the NYSE and major aspects going on as represented in the chart.   As time goes on the format may change, so let me know what you think!

But for now, let's look at the chart from the point of view of Wall Street and the NYSE. (Click chart for larger image)

What is going on here?!?!

Well, to start, the Sun entered the zodiac sign of Pisces on the 19th. For financial markets the Sun represents the government, heads of state, the CEO's and presidents of corporations. In Pisces these entities wake each day to a boundless and ethereal Piscean world having visions of utopia.

Interestingly, this chart lacks dynamic energy, and what I mean by lacking dynamic energy is, when using tight orbs, the only major aspect between planets is the 6th house conjunction of the New Moon with Neptune!

Basically, at the exact time of the New Moon, all the planets with the exception of the Sun, Moon and Neptune are without aspect! Planets without aspect often act without restraint – or sometimes they just quietly hold back and don't act at all. This New Moon conjunction takes place in Pisces – so folks, we may be confused about what is ahead this month. Confusion equals volatility in the stock market.

The New Moon conjunct Neptune in the 6th house
The focus is on jobs and the health of the economy. Unemployment figures may be up, and the stock market may appear to be rallying to new heights, but we wonder, is it all a Piscean illusion?

Healthcare stocks may lead the market.

Mercury in the 7th House
Two days after the New Moon, Mercury will oppose Mars on February 23 at 17° Pisces. That will be the last aspect Mercury makes before changing signs to join Venus and Uranus in the aggressive sign of Aries. A challenging aspect, this opposition may manifest in a breakdown of communication regarding mergers and public relations.

Venus and Uranus in the 8th house
Venus in Aries, the Original Material Girl, has an appetite to acquire more, more and more. In Aries, Venus is aggressive and impulsive. In the 8th house she has her eye on what belongs to you!

Uranus' energy in the 8th allows for surprisingly new and "interesting" ways to deal with the debt and taxes. Politicians' idea to tax the rich higher to pay for entitlements could gain momentum but with unpredicted consequences.

With Venus and Uranus here, you'll see strength in the luxury retail sector, and material goods. Financials will do well in the market as there is a perceived reduction in risk in this sector; volatile prices for air and rail transport and tech stocks.

Jupiter in the 9th house
Jupiter began the year with no harsh aspects to hold back his natural exuberance and desire to expand. Aspects to Jupiter during this lunar month are nice and easy flowing as well: a sextile from the Piscean Sun February 25, and a conjunction with Venus involved in a Grand Trine with Pluto and Mars, March 13 and 14. Look for corporations to meet or do better than their earnings expectations. Developments in foreign affairs, foreign trade, courts of law, the Secretary of State and immigration policy are in the news.

Mars is retrograde in the 1st house
Mars, the Great Warrior, Our Defender, and Energizer of the Universe is retrograde, meaning the market doesn't feel "quite right" and is running on it's last leg. The general public is very concerned over the anemic economy and wants to see some strength. Virgo energy demands of corporations and government to clean up waste.

Mars Rx suggests the difficulty that the NYSE faces to move upward without the Fed pumping money into the market.

Brokers, buyers, and sellers just don't know what to expect and are cautious. So, Mars Rx in the first could indicate a lunar month with very little volume traded.  Acquisitions and mergers may fail due to the opposition with Mercury two days after the New Moon.

FYI - Mars went retrograde January 23, and will stay Rx until April 13. When Mars is Rx, taking action requires much more energy than what is usually necessary, and we don't have a lot of energy to go on!

Kaye Shinker stated in Textbook 1 of The Textbook for Financial Astrology, that Mars, when Rx, "is impulsive, and ambitious, and his actions are misinterpreted." Wars are lost and legal battles are terribly expensive.

Her research shows that previous Mars retrogrades in Virgo have found traders attempting to corner one of the commodities. (For example, the Silver market in 1980.)

Personal note: During Mars Rx there is a good chance you will lose any type of battle you may initiate. However, life does continue on during Mars Rx, albeit without the proper energy at one's disposal, so do yourself a big favor and summon up all your patience – do not force issues, and use this time period for rest. Resting up will give you a reserve of energy that you can use to your benefit when Mars goes direct!

And, by the way, it's definitely not a good time to start up a new business unless your business idea will help people conserve electricity, sell labor saving devises, or offer items that help people relax, take it easy, and enjoy life.

Saturn is retrograde in 3rd house
Saturn began its trek backwards in Libra on February 7 and will remain retrograde until June 15, reminding Wall Street - one more time - that fairness and balance are necessary in business and financial affairs. Greed, unethical behavior and unfair actions will wind you up with your frozen assets between a rock and hard, cold place.

Saturn is associated with austerity. When retrograde, Saturn puts the brakes on things that had previously been moving forward and takes steps backward. In the 3rd house it suggests scrutiny by the public, by the media, and concern over the re-emergence of the Greece problem.

Pluto in the 5th house
The Commodities market is recognized for its power over all other markets with Pluto in the fifth. With the New Moon and Neptune in Pisces, gas, oil and liquid commodity prices will be volatile.

What to do? Well, it is a great time to do things that start with the prefix "re".   Do the repairs you have been putting off. With Mars Rx as well, do maintenance on your vehicles. And back up your computer!

It is a terrible time to start a new project, sign letters/contracts, or make major purchases. Misinterpreted communications make a mess of things during Mercury RX.

Be very, very careful when pressing the buy/sell button if you decide to be in the market.  Put in your stops because you can expect some volatility in the market.   Kaye Shinker recommended just getting out of the market and taking this time to rest or to do things that have been put on the back burner.  She always said "If you are a trader/investor these are perfect dates for a vacation."  A detailed discussion concerning the perils of Mercury Retrograde appears in Lesson 2, The Textbook for Financial Astrology.

In the next Next Moon newsletter I will discuss the implication of Mars Rx in Virgo and Mercury Rx in Aries and their influence in the houses of the New Moon in Aries chart.  Mars and Virgo will be in mutual reception, and just to forewarn you, when planets are in mutual reception they behave as honored guests in each others territory.
